PM Academy · Onsite #1
Session Recap · Onsite #1 Kickoff
The session covered the business of the work and what it takes to own a project from first handshake to closeout.
Session Summary
Dallas approached the material as operators. The room concentrated on the numbers behind the work and on what it takes to own a project end to end. All three principles carried that same emphasis.
Establishing Clarity
The paper-airplane build made the point quickly. With one-way instructions and no demonstration, even a willing team cannot act on what it cannot see. Their own fix: clarity is shared, not announced. And the day’s top gap pointed the same direction: pin down client expectations and success criteria early, write them down, and make sure the whole team can find them.
Controlling Advancement
Round two showed how even an official-looking process can stall partway through. Dallas answered by spotting where the process needed a person, stepping in, and resetting the pace to reality. The room also gave an honest name to a familiar habit: “I don’t have time” usually means “I’ve deprioritized this,” and a project manager owns that call on purpose.
Protecting Integrity
The discussion of whether the business or the client comes first ended on one point: the two pull in the same direction. Protecting the work means owning the numbers as carefully as the design. A healthy firm is what allows a project manager to keep showing up for the client and the team.
The takeaway
Own the whole project: the design, the relationships, and the business behind them. Establish clarity before moving, hold the right pace, and treat the firm’s health as part of the work.
Each table then drew where it is headed as PMs. Four different metaphors carried the same three instincts, and the room set out to apply them over the next three months.
Participant Artifacts
Four tables produced four metaphors. Clarity, advancement, and integrity ran underneath each one.

A whole cake held up in two hands, built tier by tier: tools and communication at the base, quality and the business dashboard above, schedule and foresight, then harmony, money, and heart, all of it crowned with the Grace mark. Everything a PM balances, stacked into one thing a PM carries.
Tools · Quality · Foresight · Balance · Heart

A journey from first engagement up a rising staircase: a bright idea, written approvals, the weight of a deadline overhead, an “integrity” angel keeping watch, and a figure who reaches the top through practice, with a little whiskey to celebrate.
Engagement · Approvals · Integrity · Practice

A lighthouse throwing a clear beam over rough water while a small boat finds its way in. The PM as the fixed point: steady, visible, guiding the work safely home in any weather.
Steady light · Direction · Safe harbor · Guidance

A Grace PM with heart on full display, unfurling the firm’s story, weighing what is right against the dollars, ready to take the calculated leap. Off to the side the work takes flight and still comes home to the mailbox and the spreadsheet, and the field grows underneath. Vision, value, and the fine print, carried by one person.
Balance · Value · Calculated risk · Growth
