Session Outcomes

Orlando ran with four table groups.

Teams from across Florida and beyond met in Orlando for the first time. The session covered the same three ideas as New Orleans, surfaced in ways of their own.

Establishing Clarity

This group examined how clarity actually travels. The line that landed: if it matters, say it to a face and have them say it back — the important stuff doesn’t survive buried in a chat thread. Clarity is something the project manager gives the team, not something they quietly do for them.

Controlling Advancement

Their two paper-airplane rounds made the point. Too rigid, and people interpret their own way. Too loose, and nothing holds the work to a standard. Pacing balances standards with flexibility, and owns the outcome rather than the steps.

Protecting Integrity

When each table drew its Ideal PM, the Orchestra Conductor took the vote, a PM who keeps a whole roster of specialists on the same beat. That was Orlando’s shorthand for integrity: holding the work, the team, and the client together so nothing drifts.

The takeaway

Every PM call is a business call. Manage to balanced targets instead of any single extreme. Flag an unrealistic fee early, while there is still room to shape it.

The Ideal PM, as Orlando drew it

Four tables produced four different drawings with the same instincts underneath.

Hand-drawn octopus labeled Octo PM in Charge, each tentacle naming a PM responsibility.

Octo PM in charge

An octopus with a hand on everything at once, every tentacle a job the PM is juggling, and a heart in the middle to keep it human. In it for the long run, bringing the highest and truest self every day.

Cost mastery · Budget stewardship · Schedule · Staffing · No change drama · Client empathy & trust · Quality/QA · Design excellence · Client satisfaction · Leadership

The “Grace-Line”, a PM locomotive hauling the project down the track, repeating the only mantra that holds up under pressure: “I know I can…”

Keep the project on track · Implement quality · Keep learning & improving · Make the $$ · Close the gaps

Rising from the ashes

A phoenix built straight out of the three principles, with wings of Integrity and Clarity lifting off a foundation of Advancement.

Conducting the orchestra

Voted the winning metaphor. The PM as conductor, every musician a discipline, and the whole room only sounds like music when someone up front keeps the time.
