A recap of the July 9 call for anyone who could not attend.
A synthesis of the cohort orientation call, covering the program logic, the standard, and the work due before Tuesday. It stands in for the full hour of recording.
Meeting RecordingFull July 9 orientation call · ~65 minWhy This Program Exists
Project management at Grace is a governance function that clears space for great design by keeping projects on track. The curriculum is drawn directly from onsite sessions where 125+ staff mapped their day-to-day responsibilities, flagged where consistency breaks down across offices, and ranked which gaps cause the most damage. Those rankings shape the modules.
The Standard We Are Building Toward
Grace is aiming for excellence rather than the industry baseline, and the goal is a delivery standard other firms cannot easily copy. To get there, the program replaces three common PM patterns with a single target.
Notes are perfect and files are immaculate, and the larger picture is easy to lose in the volume of paperwork.
The pull is back toward design work, so project management activity gets sidestepped whenever possible.
A happy client is the goal on every project, sometimes at the cost of their own stress or the team’s.
The accountable owner is answerable for outcomes regardless of who does the hands-on work, the target archetype for every PM at Grace.
Three behaviors anchor everything a project manager does, and they map to three outcomes a successful project manager delivers simultaneously.
Roles, responsibilities, priorities, and decisions are always known.
Advancement is matched to decisions, budget, and team capacity.
The design, the relationships, and the financials all stay sound.
Client experience is the multiplier that makes clients place greater value on working with Grace.
Team leadership is the experience the project team has working under the project manager.
Business management produces consistent, compelling results for the firm.
How Does the Program Run, Starting Now?
This standard applies across roles. Architects, engineers, and interior designers alike benefit from understanding what a project manager is coordinating toward, even before they formally hold the role.
Each week opens with one or two short videos (6 to 10 min each), a written overview, a quick reference guide, and light interactive activities.
The weekly form carries a takeaway question, a scenario question, and a request for the topics to cover live.
The hour runs 15 minutes of review, 30 minutes of discussion drawn from the submitted feedback, and 15 minutes of open Q&A. Every session is recorded and summarized, so a missed session can be picked up afterward.
